Field Notes

A pencil begins as a tool.

A line.

A mark.

Something meant to disappear into an image.

I became interested in what happens when the tool becomes the image itself.

Thousands of small decisions create a single form.

The individual remains visible.

The whole emerges through accumulation.

Color Blind is a series of sculptural portraits constructed from repurposed colored pencils. Each work is assembled by hand, transforming a familiar drawing tool into a fragmented and shifting representation of the human form.

The sculptures reveal different identities depending on the viewer’s position. From one angle, the viewer encounters fields of color and accumulated marks; from another, the individual pencils become visible as objects with their own histories and material presence.

The series investigates perception, transformation, and the relationship between individual parts and collective form.

The original sculpture was created during my undergraduate studies and later became the foundation for a limited edition series held in international collections.
